Materials & Finishes

Materials

ESM works with a range of steel, spring steel, stainless steel and cast iron materials, selected according to product requirements, application and customer specifications. Material selection and processing are controlled to ensure consistent mechanical properties, durability and product performance.

Materials and finishes

01 / Steel

Steel

An alloy of iron and other elements, primarily carbon, with properties such as hardness, ductility, tensile strength and corrosion resistance that can be tailored to specific applications through material composition.

02 / Spring Steel

Spring Steel

An iron-carbon alloy known for its strength and flexibility. ESM spring steel fasteners are heat-treated in controlled furnace processes. Components are heated to high temperatures, quenched and then tempered. Precision process controls ensure consistent material properties, quality and performance.

03 / Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel

An iron-carbon alloy enhanced with elements such as chromium, providing improved resistance to rust, staining, and corrosion compared with regular steel.

04 / Cast Iron

Cast Iron

An alloy of iron, carbon and silicon, produced by casting in molds. It is hard and brittle, with limited ductility, and cannot be hammer-welded but fuses more easily than steel.

Stainless Range

Available Stainless Steel Grades

304 / A2

Stainless Steel 304 / A2

One of the most commonly used stainless grades, containing approximately 18–20% chromium and 8–10% nickel. It provides good corrosion resistance for a wide range of applications.

301

301 Stainless Spring Steel

A highly ductile alloy suitable for formed components. Its work-hardening properties provide increased strength, wear resistance and fatigue performance compared with Stainless Steel 304. ESM 301 fasteners are heat-treated under controlled process conditions.

316 / A4

Stainless Steel 316 / A4

A stainless steel grade valued for its enhanced corrosion resistance in demanding environments, including marine applications.
